You guys, Big Sur, California, without a shadow of a doubt, is one of my favorite places on earth. It's beautiful, it's largely undeveloped (and therefore unspoiled), and did I mention it's stupid-beautiful? And that's without mentioning some of its unique nuances, such as Treebones Resort's yurts overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Henry Miller Memorial Library, and scores of wildlife you can't just find anywhere, like elephant seals, tule elk, and a variety of different whale species. Earlier this month saw me back in Big Sur, California, where I try to take a road trip up the Pacific Coast Highway every fall. And this year's road trip didn't disappoint, despite a forest fire that continued to burn nearly two months after it was started by an illegal campfire. I feel like everyone has a place (at least one place) that captures them like no other, that they can visit time and time again and it never lose its luster. Big Sur, California is that place for me.
